Tips to find the lost AirPods headphones again

The $ 159 for a pair of AirPods is not cheap. Even each single Airpods or its tiny charger box costs $ 69. So before you think about hooking it up, it's worth it to spend some effort searching. Even if you think they have gone forever, Apple technologies can still help you.

Here's how to locate your lost AirPods with Apple's Find My iPhone service.

Note: There is an important thing you need to know before trying to apply this method, which is that this feature will not work in case your AirPods has run out of battery, out of range, or is in closed lid.

This feature will also not work if you do not turn on the Find My iPhone app before you lose the AirPods.

However, the good news is that you can still use this application to locate AirPods even if it is inside the charger box, as long as the lid is still open.

If the lost AirPods are not in the charging box, you can still fully locate using Find My iPhone. This service is available for all Apple devices, not just iPhone.

There are two ways to start the search process: You can do it on an iPhone or iPad (or iPod touch) or on a desktop computer

If you are using a computer:

1. Access to iCloud.com2. Login (you will need Apple ID and login password) 3. Click on the icon that says "Find iPhone" 4. Click "All Devices" and find AirPods in the list of devices to search.

If you are using an iPhone or iPad:

  1. Open the Find My iPhone app
  2. Sign in with your Apple account
  3. You will see a list with all your connected Apple devices, including AirPods.

After logging in and viewing the display list of paired devices, you will see a series of colored dots. These dots tell you the current state of each device.

Status of the device

The blue dot indicates the device you are currently using.

Green dot means the device is currently online.

The gray dot indicates the device is offline. This sign also includes many different states of the device, for example when the device is out of battery, turned off or outside the range of the connection, it means they are in offline status. However, the place where the device was last connected will still be displayed on the map. In case the device is searched for AirPods, you will receive a notification whenever the device is displayed online, on any device that has been paired with AirPods.

If you drop each Airpods on one side, don't worry, the app will allow you to find them one by one.

Positioning AirPods

You will only be able to see an AirPods displayed at a time on the map. If you find one, immediately insert it into the charging box, then refresh the map, the location of the other one will be displayed.

As you get closer to where the lost AirPods are, it is perfectly possible to let it play, as long as it's still within Bluetooth connectivity with the Apple devices you're carrying.

If you are using iCloud.com, find the "Play sound" button in the upper right corner of the screen. If you are using Find My iPhone, click Task, select Play sound.

Sound will play with louder volume within two minutes. When you find AirPods, you can stop sound playback.

If you have tried all of the above, you still can't find your AirPods, so you have to pay for it.

AirPods on the ear

You can buy AirPods directly at Apple Store or order online. As mentioned above, a separate AirPods and charger boxes all cost $ 69.
